Bobby Wood Experiencing ‘Easiest Transition Of Career’ As He Acclimatizes To New Life In Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – For the first time since Bobby Wood was 14 he is living full-time in the United States of America. His wife and two children are in Copenhagen ready to move to Utah when the time is right, but for now, Wood is back in the motherland alone and relieved.

To date, Wood has only endured two training sessions with his new teammates but is confident that the decision to play in Major League Soccer was a success.

“The quarantine was kind of annoying,” Wood told KSL Sports. “But other than that everything has been amazing. The coaches, teammates, trainers, physios, equipment, it’s been great, it’s been really smooth. It has been amazing really. Training has been good, I have to get my fitness back and adjust to the altitude but apart from that I have been really happy.”

His last competitive match came just over two months ago when he played 71 minutes before being subbed in Hamburger SV’s 3-3 draw with Hannover 96.

It remains likely that Wood will take a few weeks before his body feels ready for the challenge of playing 90 minutes of soccer. His body will tell him when it is time to push for full fitness. But given the substantial break in matches, that time will likely not be for a few more weeks.

Wood, fortunately, is in no rush. As much as he would like to be ready for when RSL returns on June 18, he also has other areas of his life that he must take care of. Like, eating that American grub that he has longed for so many years, finding a home for his family, further developing chemistry with his teammates, and settling into his new way of life in Utah.

“It has been the easiest transition of my career,” Wood said with a smile that reached from ear to ear. “It has been great.”
