PROVO, Utah- The MLB is in the first week of the young season, and some local ballplayers from around the state are getting their campaigns underway, including former BYU Cougar Daniel Schneemann.
In Cleveland’s opening series against Kansas City, Schneemann had a great second game, walking three times and slapping his first hit and home run of the new season to aid the Guardians in their 6-2 win over the Royals.

It was the bottom of the 8th inning, the Cleveland Guardians had already built a sizable 5-0 lead over the Kansas City Royals. Even though Schneemann didn’t previously have a hit, he was a part of the scoring with three walks that helped move the order along and clog the bases. He even scored from third in the 6th inning on a fielder’s choice.
Daniel was rewarded for his patience at the plate with only six outs remaining for the Guardians. It was a 2-2 count and John Schreiber threw an 87 mph cutter on the inside corner, but Schneemann barreled it up and hit it 401 feet over the right field wall.
