Dalton Schultz To Play On Franchise Tag For Dallas Cowboys In 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Bingham High star Dalton Schultz and the Dallas Cowboys did not reach an agreement on an extension and will be on a franchise tag.
Dalton Schultz and the Dallas Cowboys had until 2 p.m. MT to reach an agreement, but if they didn’t then Schultz would play the 2022 season on a franchise tag. The Cowboys placed their franchise tag on Schultz on March 8.
By playing under the franchise tag in 2022, the Bingham High alum would earn around $11 million. He participated in mandatory minicamp back in June but missed part of the voluntary offseason training activities earlier in June. By showing up to mandatory minicamp, Schultz avoided fines of nearly $100,000.
Entering Friday, Schultz was among four players in the NFL that was being watched for potential extensions. Joining Schultz on the franchise tag watch list was Kansas City Chiefs OT Orlando Brown, Cincinnati Bengals S Jessie Bates and Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki.

Last season, the Cowboys had a 12-5 regular season record and earned a playoff berth. Dallas suffered a 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round of the postseason.
Dallas opens its 2022 campaign at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 11.

Following his high school career at Bingham, Schultz played for the Stanford Cardinal.
After his time at Stanford, the Cowboys selected Schultz during the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Schultz saw little playing time during his first two seasons in the league. In 2020, he caught the first touchdown of his NFL career and finished the year with four scores.
Last season, Schultz had a breakout year for Dallas. He helped the Cowboys reach the playoffs and ended the year with 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns.
