SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has concluded his 2020/21 PGA Tour season following a year that included his second career PGA Tour victory after a five-year wait.

Finau, 31, will not begin his preparations for the upcoming Ryder Cup scheduled to begin on September 24th from Whistling Straits Golf Club in Wisconsin. Finau is expected to be announced as a member of the upcoming Ryder Cup on Wednesday (September 8) when USA Captain Steve Stricker announces his final six selections.

Finau was not a member of the first six players announced in late August. However, based on the Ryder Cup standings, Finau should be announced as the first player selected by Stricker on Wednesday morning as he is positioned in seventh on the standings list.

Nonetheless, the conclusion of the 2020/21 PGA Tour season brings much relief to Finau who managed to secure just his second PGA Tour victory when he beat Cameron Smith in a playoff at The Northern Trust to begin the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The win put Finau in pole position to lead all PGA Tour members into the following two FedEx Cup playoff events; the BMW Championship and The Tour Championship.

However, following his T15 at the BMW, he entered the Tour Championship second on the FedEx Cup standings. His best-ever finish in the FedEx Cup came back in 2018 when he concluded the season in sixth, he looked poised to better that this year.

Sadly, Finau stumbled down the stretch and only managed a T11 at The Tour Championship despite starting the tournament at eight-under-par and just two shots behind Patrick Cantlay who began the tournament at 10-under-par.

Finau does enter the 2021/22 PGA Tour season as a top-10 golfer in the world. He is currently ranked ninth in the Official World Golf Rankings, with many more victories hopefully on the horizon.

Earlier this year, Finau managed to string together four consecutive top-two finishes, three of which he ended in either a tie or lone second place.

The win at The Northern Trust will hopefully provide enough momentum for Finau to turn top-five finishes into victories, although, that will take time to provide the appropriate answer.
