SLC’s Nathan Chen Records Second-Highest Score Ever In Team Figure Skating Event

SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City native Nathan Chen had a tremendous performance in the first segment of the team figure skating in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Nathan Chen recorded the second-best score ever in figure skating and put the United States in the lead in the team skate event.
Chen received a 63.85 technical and a 47.86 component score. With zero deductions, Chen’s total score was 111.71, which was good for first place, passing Japan’s Shoma Uno’s 105.46.

Those were the only two to receive scores over 100. Republic of China’s Mark Kondratyuk finished third with a 95.81. Morris Kvitelashvili recorded a 92.37, which was good for fourth. Daniel Grassl of Italy rounded out the top five with an 88.10.

China, Czech Republic, Canada and Germany finished sixth through ninth in the first segment out of eight as the Winter Olympic Games are underway.

The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics
Just a year after Japan’s summer Olympics, the Games are back for a winter show in Beijing, China. The unusually short gap between Games is due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Beijing is the capital of China, with a population of more than 20 million people and the first city to host both a Summer and Winter Olympic games. It is one of the largest cities in the world and 15 hours ahead of Mountain Time. There are 13 different venues in and around Beijing that will be used for the Winter Olympics.
