SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Mammoth announced that they have agreed on a one-year contract extension with defenseman Nick DeSimone on Thursday.

The deal is worth $800,000.

DeSimone played in 20 games for Utah in its inaugural season, posting six points with one goal and five assists.

The New York native previously played with Calgary and New Jersey, and Utah claimed him off waivers from the Devils in January.

Utah Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong spoke highly of DeSimone’s contributions, both on and off the ice.

“We are very pleased to have Nick return to the Mammoth,” Armstrong said. “Nick adds a veteran presence to our blue line and is a good role model for our young team. He skates well, competes hard, and moves the puck effectively. We are excited to have him on our roster.”

The Mammoth has one more restricted free agent on the defense to make a decision on, and that’s 36-year-old Robert Bortuzzo.

The only other RFA is forward Jack McBain. Nick Bjugstad and Michael Carcone are unrestricted free agents.

The NHL Draft will be held in Los Angeles on June 27 and June 28. The Free Agency period opens shortly after on July 1.
