SALT LAKE CITY – While a collection of young skaters improved their draft stock at the NHL Combine this past week, one particular name stood alone when it came to the Utah Mammoth. After capturing the attention of not only Utah, but reporters and scouts alike, 18-year-old center Brady Martin joined KSL Sports and the Utah Hockey Podcast in an exclusive interview to share all the details from his experience.

Brady Martin talks NHL Combine and Utah Mammoth experience

Brady Martin’s draft stock soars at NHL Combine

After attending to his daily chores on the family farm in Ontario, Canada, Utah Mammoth draft prospect Brady Martin joined KSL Sports on the Utah Hockey Podcast to discuss his entire NHL combine experience.

As a participant, Martin met with teams, general managers, reporters and scouts before ending the week with a collection of tests to demonstrate his skills and athletic abilities.

“The combine was good,” Martin told KSL Sports. “We had a bunch of meetings with a bunch of different teams, and you got to talk to everyone which was pretty cool.”

“Then, obviously the testing at the end of the week was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it.”

Brady Martin has a ‘good feeling’ about Utah Mammoth following several meetings with team

As arguably the most interested team in Martin according to reports, the Mammoth met with the young center throughout the week and were one of several teams to take him out to dinner.

“I think they’re pretty interested in me. We talked a lot, and I got to know them pretty well…I have a good feeling about them, and I think they’re really nice people,” Martin told KSL Sports.

“Utah is a great spot to play. If I get drafted by Utah it would be an honor and a pleasure to play there.”

Following a successful inaugural season in a new city that proved itself as a formidable hockey town, Martin was intrigued by everything that Utah has to offer.

In addition to an elite ownership group, top tier staff and new facilities, Martin acknowledged the team’s potential and believes he’d be a great fit on the roster as they pursue a championship window.

“I think it would be a good fit. They’ve got a long of young guys and I think they’re going to be good in the next couple of years,” Martin shared.

“If I can hop in and develop with them, grow as a player and person I think I can try to help them try to win a championship.”

What are Brady Martin’s strengths?

Appearing on most mock drafts as a consensus top 10 selection, Martin is a force to be reckoned with offensively as he punishes defensemen with his physicality, relentless forecheck and an arsenal of lethal shots.

Arguably one of the most competitive and fiercest skaters in the draft, the young center plays so much bigger than his actual size with an unforgiving and physical power-forward style of play.

Despite standing just six feet tall, Martin is an absolute force as he consistently delivers punishing hits all over the ice, battle in the trenches and is a pest around the net.

As demonstrated by his offensive success this past season for the Greyhounds, Martin has noticeable vision with the puck on his stick as he was able to consistently find teammates in dangerous scoring positions.

Additionally, Martin also has as lethal shot that some would consider nearly NHL ready as his catch and release allows him to blast pucks past netminders.

“I’m fun to watch,” Martin said. “If I’m putting the puck in the net or running a guy over, I always have an impact on the game.”

“I chirp guys, I keep it fun. I think people will enjoy watching me.”

Defensively, Martin boasts a very complete game with an active stick, solid positioning and continued physicality in his own zone.

Brady Martin’s message to Utah Mammoth fans

While draft day is full of unknowns and anything can truly happen when a team is on the clock, Martin’s message to Utah fans was simple.

If he is selected by the Mammoth, the young center is eager to embrace what could be his new home.

“I’m really excited to come down there, enjoy it, and meet some new people. I’ve never been that far away from home so it’s going to be pretty cool,” Martin explained.

“To wear that jersey is going to be an honor too…I just can’t wait to get down to Utah if I get drafted there and meet the fans and the community. I heard it’s a pretty good hockey community.”

Looking ahead, the NHL Draft will take place on June 27 and 28.

Martin will remain at home for the draft to be with his loved ones.
