SALT LAKE CITY – As the Utah Hockey Club closed out its home schedule against the Nashville Predators, former Utah Football star Cody Barton was at Delta Center to see the action.

The home closer ended up being a great game to watch live. Utah held the advantage, but it was still a highly competitive game.

After spending one season in Denver, Barton will move onto his third team in three years in 2025.

The seventh-year linebacker will suit up for Tennesee after signing a 3-year, $21 million dollar deal this offseason.

Last year with the Broncos, Barton posted 106 tackles (53 solo), 1.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and two interceptions.

Following his time at Utah, Barton was selected by the Seahawks with the No. 88 overall pick during the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Last season, Barton recorded 136 total tackles, 84 solo tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, and six pass breakups.

Barton signed with the Commanders in March 2023 before inking a deal with the Denver Broncos in March 2024.

During his five seasons in the league, the former Ute has posted 352 total tackles, 207 solo tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and nine pass breakups. He’s played in 78 NFL games.

Utah is 3-1 on its current homestand and has six wins in its last 10 games. Meanwhile, Nashville won its last game against New York but lost eight of its last 10 prior to that.

This is the second of three matchups between the Hockey Club and the Predators this season. In the first game, Nashville wiped Utah, 4-0, on their home ice.
