EDMONTON, ALBERTA, Canada—The Utah Hockey Club entered the night hoping to steal two points, but Edmonton quickly put that to rest, pulling away for a 7-1 win. The six-goal loss was Utah’s largest margin of defeat in franchise history.

Utah HC (30-27-11, 71 points) faces the Oilers (40-24-4, 84 points) at Rogers Place on Tuesday, March 18. Edmonton is second in the Pacific Division, in firm control of a playoff spot. Utah continues battling with the Vancouver Canucks (73 points), St. Louis Blues (73 points), and Calgary Flames (71 points) for the final Western Conference Wild Card spot.

Utah is 17-13-4 on the road, while Edmonton has defended home-ice with a 20-11-2 Rogers Place record. The Oilers have won two straight and are 5-5 in their past ten games. Utah HC is 6-2-2 in its past ten. Edmonton is 2-0 against Utah this season. They snatched a late-November 4-3 overtime win in Salt Lake City, then handed Utah a 4-1 road loss on New Year’s Eve.

Captain Clayton Keller is the league’s 11th-best scorer (75 points) after notching his first career 50-assist season. Keller has 51 helpers, and his 24 goals are tied with Dylan Guenther for the team lead. Guenther’s 48 points have him tied with Logan Cooley (18 goals, 30 assists) for third. Nick Schmaltz (16 goals, 37 assists) is second behind Keller with 53 points.

Karel Vejmelka leads the way in goal for Utah, making 11 straight starts while the club makes a playoff push. Vejmelka is ninth in the NHL with 2.45 goals against and 13th with a .909 save percentage.

The Oilers feature two of the league’s most potent scorers and creators, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Draisaitl is second in the NHL with 101 points (49 goals, 52 assists), followed closely by McDavid’s 86 points (25 goals, 61 assists) in fourth. Draisaitl begins the night with an 18-game scoring streak, and McDavid has scored in 11 straight.

Defenseman Evan Bouchard forms a three-headed scoring monster, adding 13 goals and 40 assists for the ninth-best scoring team in the NHL.
