SALT LAKE CITY – With the Utah Mammoth less than a month away from the 2025 NHL Draft, fans are itching for ways to find more hockey content while supporting their favorite players and community. Mammoth fans may not have to wait as long as they think while helping those in need through the Ultimate Goalie Showdown.

What is Ultimate Goalie Showdown

Last year, Valentino “Tino” Beckmann began his journey playing hockey by making the AHU Knights 8U travel team, but life came at him much fast than anyone anticipated. Tino found himself in the Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s ICU fighting a battle against an unknown illness that no seven-year-old should ever have experienced.

Eddie Lack, former Vancouver Canucks goalie, heard Tino’s story and made sure that Tino knew he wasn’t alone in this fight having the hockey community there for him.

Word of Tino’s story spread so far that a member of his favorite NHL team, Jesper Bratt of the New Jersey Devils, even sent a video showing his support during Tino’s difficult fight.

Lack felt that a video wasn’t enough to show his support, so he surprised Tino and his family in Gilbert, AZ, which has led to a lasting bond to this day. With this bond Ryan Beckmann, father of Tino, decided to make a playful bet with Lack. Five shots for $500 to the charity of their choice. With this challenge, the Ultimate Goalie Challenge was born.

How Does the Ultimate Goalie Challenge Work

Beckmann and Lack will be facing off head-to-head in a shootout competition.

With Beckmann in net and Lack as the shooter, Lack believes he can score five of five on Beckmann. For Beckmann to “win” the challenge, he must block one of five shots.

Regardless of the winner, 10% of all donations will be allocated to Tino’s hockey team, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The winner of the challenge will donate 75% of the donations to the charity of their choice, and the runner-up will donate the remaining 25% to a charity of their choice.

Beckmann will be donating to Puck Support, a charity that is igniting change in the hockey community about the importance of mental health awareness and providing resources for individuals who have a history of substance misuse.

You can donate directly to the cause at the Ultimate Goalie Showdown website. You can also donate to the Ultimate Goalie Showdown: Where Hockey’s Heart Shines GoFundMe page here.

If you’d like to donate to the individual organizations, please follow the links provided earlier.

There will also be a silent auction featuring items ranging from a team-signed 2023-24 Arizona Coyotes sweater to custom Wayne Gretzky skates by Guby Skates. The auction will conclude at midnight on June 18 on the Ultimate Goalie Showdown website.

The Ultimate Goalie Showdown will take place on June 17, starting at 7:00 PM MST, in Gilbert, AZ, at AZ Gilbert Ice, with online streaming options available.
