SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – With the recent reports surrounding Utah Jazz assistant coach Alex Jensen interviewing for the Utes head coaching job, Quin Snyder had high praise for his assistant.

Stadium’s Jeff Goodman reported that Utah athletic director Mark Harlan will interview Alex Jensen for the vacant Runnin’ Utes head coaching job.

KSL Sports Jazz insider Ben Anderson asked head coach Quin Snyder about Jensen and what he brings to the organization as an assistant coach.

“Well, without commenting on the specific interview/search process, I think it’s fairly obvious and known how I feel about Alex,” Snyder said. “He’s incredibly important to our program, to me personally, in so many ways, whether it be game management, the things that people see the most of, our preparation process and teaching. He just checks all those boxes. I think people in the Jazz know how talented Alex is.”

The Viewmont High School star began his coaching career as an assistant with his former college coach Rick Majerus at Saint Louis from 2007-11 before becoming the head coach of the Canton Charge in the NBA G-League from 2011-13. He then joined Snyder’s staff in 2013.

If Jensen becomes the head coach of the Runnin’ Utes, he will have to transition from the NBA to college, something that Quin Snyder experienced in his coaching career, serving as the Missouri head coach before going to the NBA.

“There are differences between the NBA and college, some of the most fundamental ones that people don’t think about are just something as simple as the game management, the rules of the game are slightly different,” Snyder mentioned. “It’s ironic that the way the college game is now with recruiting, oftentimes you don’t have players as long so there’s a lot of things that factor into that. Obviously one of the biggest things is the recruiting process and it’s been a while since I was in college. I can say again how valuable Alex is and what a talented coach he is and he will be successful as a head coach sometime in the future.”
