Alex Smith Named Alamo Bowl Honorary Captain For Utes

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Former Utah quarterback Alex Smith was named an honorary captain for the Utes in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Smith played for the University of Utah from 2002-04.
The former Ute QB will serve as an honorary captain for Utah football in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Tuesday, December 31.

Smith will be joined by his Washington Redskins teammate Colt McCoy, who will serve as the honorary captain for his former college and Utah’s bowl opponent, the Texas Longhorns.

During his college career, Smith appeared in 25 games. He threw for 5,203 yards with a completion percentage of 66.3. He passed for 47 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Smith ran for 1,072 and 15 touchdowns while at Utah.
Smith finished fourth in voting for the 2004 Heisman Trophy which is awarded annually to college football’s top player.
He was honored in 2004 as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year.
Smith led Utah to an undefeated season and a win in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. He bypassed playing his senior season with the Utes and entered the NFL Draft. Smith was drafted by the 49ers with the first overall pick in 2005.
The Washington quarterback has played for the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Redskins since he entered the NFL in 2005.
In 166 career games, Smith has completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 34,068 yards, 193 touchdowns, and 101 interceptions.
Utah and Texas are scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and 700 AM.
