Sam Merrill Moves Up To No. 2 On Utah State’s All-Time Scoring List

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Utah State guard Sam Merrill moved into the No. 2 spot on the Aggies’ all-time scoring list during the team’s Mountain West Conference Tournament quarterfinal matchup with the New Mexico Lobos.
Merrill and the Aggies played against the Lobos at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Thursday, March 5.
The USU guard buried a jumper during the opening minute of the second half to move up from third place on the Aggies’ list.

The jump shot pushed Merrill past former USU great Greg Grant. During Grant’s career in Logan, he scored 2,127 points.
Merrill now trails only former Aggies guard Jaycee Carroll. During his time at Utah State, Carroll scored 2,522 points.
On Merrill’s jumper, Utah State extended its lead to 37-33 with 19:03 remaining in the game.
The USU guard scored 7 points during the first 3:07 of the second half to help the Aggies to a 40-36 advantage with 16:53 in the game. At that point in the game, Merrill had 18 points on 8-13 field goals.
