BYU RB Tyler Allgeier Lands National Honors For Career Night Against UVA

PROVO, Utah – BYU football running back Tyler Allgeier continues to pile up national recognition.
The sophomore ball carrier has been named an Honorable Mention National Player of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.

This honor comes Allgeier’s way after putting together a 266-yard game in BYU’s 66-49 win over the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday. Allgeier’s performance was the third-best single-game rushing total in BYU football history. Behind only Jamaal Williams in 2016 against Toledo and Eldon Fortie in 1962. Fortie has his jersey retired in the BYU program.
Allgeier was also named the Independent Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. This was the third time in 2021 that Allgeier has received that recognition.
The College Football Performance Awards recognize individual athletes at specific positions with awards at the end of a given season. For example, back in 2012, former BYU star Kyle Van Noy won the CFPA Linebacker of the Year award for his stellar junior season.
The CFPA presents an award each year to a running back; Allgeier is likely a strong candidate for that award at the season’s end.
College Football Performance Awards winners are selected each week and at the end of every season based upon objective scientific ratings on how the individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Allgeier is one of three running backs to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark this season through nine games. Allgeier has run for 1,127 yards on 197 carries. That’s an average of 5.72 yards per carry.
Allgeier is also first in touchdown runs nationally, with 16 so far this year. During the win over Virginia, Allgeier tied a BYU single-game record for five touchdown runs.
Allgeier and the No. 17 BYU Cougars are back in action this Saturday when they host the Idaho State Bengals from the FCS ranks. BYU is 7-2 overall this season.
