BYU, WKU ADs Discuss Potential Games On Heels Of Mascot Championship

PROVO, Utah – BYU and Western Kentucky (WKU) fans had a heated battle in the mascot championship last week. Both fan bases rallied to turn an innocent Twitter poll into a fun event.
The event was so much fun it led each school’s athletic director’s to discuss actual games in either football or basketball.

After Cosmo defeated Big Red in the mascot championship, WKU’s Athletic Director Todd Stewart replied to a Hilltoppers fan asking for home-and-home’s in football and basketball with BYU in the future. Stewart wrote on his Twitter, “We would love to do a football and/or basketball series. The schools have never played in football and @WKUBasketball leads the all-time hoops series 3-0 but we haven’t played since 1954. Let’s make this happen @TomHolmoe!”
BYU being a football independent always has flexibility when it comes to scheduling and men’s basketball is usually a year-to-year project. So there could be an opportunity for the Cougars and Hilltoppers to meet. Even BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe hinted at the possibility.

Holmoe replied to Stewart on Twitter, “Ironic how Cosmo and Big Red could get their two AD’s together to talk a little future fun & games. Great chatting with you Todd. Good luck to the Hilltoppers!”

WKU resides in Conference USA and BYU has shown a willingness to schedule programs from that league in the past. BYU had a home-and-home with Middle Tennessee and last year scheduled a series against Rice.
So we will have to wait and see if there are any games between the athletic departments, but having the chance to put Cosmo and Big Red on the same sideline should be an incentive for everyone from BYU and WKU to get some games lined up.
