BYU Starting OL Brayden Keim Will Be ‘Out For A Little Bit’ Due To Injury

Nov 14, 2024, 1:29 PM | Updated: 3:14 pm

PROVO, Utah – BYU football starter Brayden Keim is OUT for this week’s game against Kansas.

The senior offensive tackle got rolled up during the fourth quarter of last Saturday’s win at Utah.

Keim walked on his own gingerly to the locker room after the 22-21 rivalry. But this week at practice, he has been in a boot and rolling around on a scooter.

“…I think [Keim] got rolled up on during a pressure that was a sack. He’s done some amazing things for us,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said earlier this week.

BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick confirmed that Keim is out.

“Brayden is going to be out for a little bit,” said Roderick.

As for how long, the sixth-year offensive coordinator indicated it would be for the remainder of the regular season.

Brayden Keim is out until at least the postseason

“We’re hoping to get him back for postseason play,” Roderick added.

Keim has started in all nine games this season for BYU at the right tackle position.

The 6-foot-9, 315-pound Keim arrived at BYU as a walk-on tight end out of Alta High School. He considered moving on to pursue the NFL after last season but opted to return and has thrived on a BYU offensive line that has been instrumental in BYU’s 9-0 start.

In Keim’s place will be Colorado transfer Isaiah Jatta.

Isaiah Jatta steps in

Jatta, a 6-foot-6, 320-pound prospect who signed with BYU this past spring, stepped in for Keim to close the game against Utah.

“Jatta will start [against Kansas],” Roderick said. “Jatta came in the [Utah] game and played very well at the end of the game. In fact, in that speed option play that you mentioned, he had a very tough block, and he made it. He got there and made the block and played well.”

While BYU loses Keim, they do get one of their top offensive linemen back from injury in Connor Pay.

The captain at center has been out since Baylor week in September due to a foot injury.

“Connor’s gonna play,” said Roderick. “He’s ready to roll.”
