PROVO, Utah – The 2024 season concludes with another AP Top 25 finish for BYU football.
After Monday night’s National Championship game, in which Ohio State defeated Notre Dame 34-23 in Atlanta, the Associated Press released its final rankings for 2024.
BYU football finished ranked No. 13 in the Top 25
BYU finished ranked No. 13. That’s a four-spot jump after BYU crushed Colorado 36-14 in the 2024 Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.
What’s interesting about BYU’s No. 13 ranking is that it is one spot behind SMU. BYU defeated SMU in Dallas back in September.
It’s the third season under head coach Kalani Sitake that BYU has finished a season ranked in the AP Top 25. The 13th ranking is the second-highest finish under Sitake, only trailing a No. 11 finish in 2020.
The final ranking in the 2024 season gives BYU football its 20th season ranked in the final AP Top 25.
BYU football was 11-2 in the 2024 season and was tied for first place in the Big 12 Conference. However, tiebreakers kept the Cougars out of the Big 12 Championship Game.
In 2024, BYU boasted one of college football’s best defenses and special teams. BYU’s offense was led by quarterback Jake Retzlaff, who passed for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns.
BYU finished the 2024 season with two victories over Top 25 teams (SMU, No. 12; Colorado, No. 25).
