SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU Cougar Andrew Pintar is getting noticed in his first spring training as a member of the Miami Marlins organization.
Pintar was recognized as the 30th-best prospect in the Marlins system to open 2025. Miami acquired the athletic outfielder at the 2024 MLB trade deadline in a deal for relief pitcher A.J. Puk.

Pintar followed up his best season as a pro by winning the Defensive Player of the Season award in the Arizona Fall League.
He is 2-for-9 with a home run and four RBI in six spring training games.
When he’s on, the righty-hitting Pintar controls the strike zone, gets on base and shows the ability to drive homers to his pull side and doubles to right field. He got abused by non-fastballs in Double-A, however, and did little damage while making contact against heaters. He has flashed hitting ability and 15-homer power, but he’ll need to make adjustments or else be relegated to a platoon role.
Finally healthy in 2024, Pintar turned his plus speed loose on the bases and swiped 33 bases in 35 attempts (94 percent) between the Minors and AFL. A middle infielder in college, he made a smooth transition to full-time center fielder last year. His reads and routes continue to improve and he’s at least a solid defender in center, though his shoulder issues left him with below-average arm strength.

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Pintar in the fifth round of the 2022 MLB draft, the highest Cougar draft pick in a decade. In 2023, he hit .241 in 37 games at High-A Hillsboro.
