SALT LAKE CITY – Amidst a wild week of free agency and development camp, President of Hockey Operations Chris Armstrong shared several important updates regarding Jack McBain and Logan Cooley’s contract extensions.

Conversations continue between the Utah Mammoth and Jack McBain

On Monday, June 30, the Utah Mammoth announced that the club had extended a qualifying offer to forward Jack McBain.

Several days later however, McBain has yet to sign the dotted line and ink his extension with Utah.

While that may come as a concern to many fans who are eager to see him return to the roster for several more years, Armstrong confirmed on Thursday morning that conversations have continued, and seem to be trending in a positive manner.

“We’ve made it very clear that he [Jack] is an important part of our future & we felt that he believes he’s an important part of our future,” Armstrong said.

“We hope we can get that done as quickly as possible.”

As talks continue, some important dates to keep in mind are as follows:

  • July 5 at 3 pm: Deadline for player-elected salary arbitration
  • July 6 at 3 pm: Club-elected salary arbitration deadline
  • July 20 – Aug 4: Arbitration hearings

Notably, McBain had a career-high 13 goals and 27 points for Utah in 2025.

Conversations have begun between the Utah Mammoth and Logan Cooley

While McBain’s extension has more of an immediate deadline, Logan Cooley remains arguably the most important player on Utah’s roster to extend.

Coming off a career-high 25 goals and 40 assists with Utah this past season, 21-year-old Cooley appears destined to become a star in the NHL.

According to Armstrong, the Mammoth share a similar outlook as they’ve begun conversations with the young forward’s representation.

“He’s an important part & piece of our future…Certainly one we think is a future star of this league,” Armstrong explained.

“We want him to be a star for the Utah Mammoth.”

For Cooley, a contract isn’t as pressing as he still has one year left on his entry-level contract.

However, Armstrong also shared that the hope is to lock him up long term before the next season even begins.

Next For The Utah Mammoth

With an inability host a full development game at Delta Center, the mammoth will participate in a four-on-four intra-squad scrimmage that will simulate a mock game with on-ice officials on Thursday, July 3 at 12 P.M. at Utah’s Olympic Oval.

The Mammoth will host 500 youth hockey players throughout the Utah Amateur Hockey Association to watch the closed scrimmage.
