SALT LAKE CITY – As the NHL offseason continues, the Utah Mammoth announced another free agent signing as they agreed to bring back forward Michael Carcone on a one-year contract.

Despite Carcone’s comments during exit interviews back in April where he clearly outlined that he and the organization would be going different directions, the two sides obviously came to an agreement for the upcoming campaign as the 29-year-old will return to the Mammoth on a short one-year deal for the 2025-26 season.

“I love the guys in there, great group. I don’t think that’s going to be the answer, though. I don’t think we’re going to agree on anything. I spoke to the coaching staff and management, and I think we’re going to go in different directions,” Carcone said during exit interviews.
Fast forward a few months and obviously a lot has changed as the veteran will play for Utah another year.
“We are very pleased to sign Michael to a new contract,” said Bill Armstrong, general manager of the Utah Mammoth. ”He’s a play-making forward who plays with an edge, is a strong skater, and improves the depth of our club. We look forward to having him back on our roster next season.”

Last season, Carcone registered 19 points in 53 appearances for the Mammoth.
With an AAV of $775K, Carcone is likely another depth addition to the roster that will provide veteran experience and a strong voice in the room.
Similar to the role he fulfilled last season, Carcone will likely be a consistent healthy scratch who can step in if injuries occur or if other skaters struggle to perform.
With Daniil But expected to see minutes this fall, Cole Beaudoin pushing for a roster spot and a collection of other forwards pressing for minutes, it’s hard to imagine the 29-year-old beating anyone out from day one.
Instead, he’ll be able to fill in as needed and provide even more competition for some of the young guys as Utah continues to take positive steps later in the rebuilding process.
