SALT LAKE CITY, Utah- The Utah Hockey Club played as good as a team could for 93% of Monday night’s game against the San Jose Sharks, but a Holloween nightmarelike final five minutes had UHC fans in shock as they watched the Sharks score four unanswered goals to take an unthinkable overtime win back to the Bay Area.

Monday’s matchup featured two players who slotted their first goals as members of the Utah Hockey Club. Matias Maccelli put two in the net from close range and Mikhail Sergacheb slung one in from the blue line. Dylan Guenther also ended his scoring drought with the game’s opening goal.

All was pointing to a dominant Utah Hockey Club win against a struggling San Jose Sharks team until Fabian Zetterlund, Mikael Granlund, and Tyler Toffoli all scored goals off of offensive zone faceoffs to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, Nick Schmaltz had the first and only chance for UHC, a shot down the slot that was saved by Blackwood. Just a few minutes into the extra period, Michael Kesselring went to the box for hooking, and with the extra attacker, San Jose made easy work with Alexander Wennberg scoring the game-winning goal.

San Jose earned their first win of the young season but UHC still walks away with a point.
