SALT LAKE CITY – At the completion of their inaugural NHL campaign, the Utah Hockey Club finished with a 38-31-13 overall record (89 points, 5th in the Central Division). The following is an analysis and letter grade for Logan Cooley after a full season in Utah.
Stats: 75 GP, 25 G, 40 A, 17:51 TOI/G
With 65 points (second-most on the team) through 75 appearances for Utah this season, 20-year-old forward Logan Cooley demonstrated immense growth and elite potential throughout his second full year in the National Hockey League.
Not only did he witness a 47 percent increase year-over-year in terms of production, but he also finished with the second most points in the league amongst players 20 years or younger, trailing only Connor Bedard (67).
As one of the brightest young stars in the NHL, Cooley shined in nearly every facet of the game as he played on the top two forward lines, power play and penalty kill for the Utah Hockey Club.
With his blazing speed, elite handles, superior vision, active stick, legitimate defensive skills and the ability to find the back of the net, Cooley arguably boasts the most complete 200-foot-game on the roster.

Unsurprisingly, Cooley’s impressive season captured the attention of some the league’s biggest stars, including NHL legend and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
“Obviously, he’s very noticeable now,” Crosby said of Cooley. “He skates really well, brings the puck to the net. He’s pretty fearless taking it there.”
“He’s got great hands, he can shoot it. He’s the total package. He’s dangerous out there.”

The biggest thing for Cooley right now in terms of how he can improve is simply more time and experience.
Unfortunately, there’s not a magical time machine that can suddenly speed up the process and produce a 25 or 26-year-old Logan Cooley entering his prime.
But as he continues to gather experience every season, No. 92 will only get better as he increases his point totals, make more of an impact and takes bigger leaps within his game.
Additionally, one minor area that Cooley can continue to work on is by making sure that he channels his energy and competitiveness the right way.
Early on in the season, Cooley was called for a handful poorly timed penalties that put his team in bad situations and even cost them against the Anaheim Ducks in late December.
While he made visible progress in this area, he’ll need to remain vigilant and aware as teams will undoubtedly try to get in his head.
Following the conclusion of the Utah Hockey Club’s inaugural season, the next notable event will be the NHL Draft on June 27 and 28.
