SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Hockey Club looked very solid through the first two periods but a slow third resulted in another home loss against the New York Islanders on Thursday.
The first period was filled with offensive fireworks from both sides. Utah took the advantage in the second. However, three unanswered from the Islanders sealed the deal in the final period.
Matias Maccelli scored both of Utah’s goals in first and Logan Cooley scored the club’s third and final goal less than a minute into the second.
Currently at 1-4 on their homestand, the Hockey Club will have two more shots to defend their home ice before heading back out on the road. Next up is St. Louis on Saturday, January 18.

Great pressure from the second line and Maccelli made sure to clean up the rebound.
Great start. Need to keep it going. https://t.co/SIWTYakqpd

Bad turnover in the D-zone and the Rangers capitalize with a goal.

Brutal turnover ends up on the stick of the Rangers leading goal scorer right in front.
That’s going to end up in the back of the net every time. https://t.co/1crDENk8Dq

Relentless effort by Maccelli to bury that rebound for his second of the night.

Not a lot of goaltending or defense in this one.
Offenses are buzzing though. Similar feel to their first meeting back in October. Fun to watch. https://t.co/yEQJkMI86B

One of their best periods in terms of offense with sustained O-zone possessions, suffocating pressure, and a strong net presence.
Defensively, not so great. 2 goals on 8 shots is pretty brutal.
Lots more hockey left. https://t.co/BfZZviLhC3

LOGAN COOLEY SCORES ON THE POWER PLAY AND UTAH RETAKES THE LEAD 3-2!
No. 92 is just special. Simple as that.#UtahHC

After scoring in the second, Logan Cooley now has 13 goals and 38 total points (2nd on the team behind Keller).
In 82 games last season, he had just 44 points.
Special season for the 20-year-old. https://t.co/Wf6o7aytxp

Absolutely filthy pass from Keller. To know he was there and put it right on his stick is ridiculous.
Then Cooley buries it.
Utah is letting shots fly tonight and it’s working. https://t.co/mE41KLvk5G

Standing ovation for the Utah Hockey Club after killing the 5 on 3.
Marino, Stenlund, and Cole were phenomenal. Lots of fight in those 3.
29 seconds left on the 5 on 4 for the Rangers.

Killing a 5 on 3 back to full strength is almost as significant as scoring a goal.
A 2-man advantage opens up so much space for the opposition to punish you.
Takes a complete effort from everyone. https://t.co/pJLnnhppTD

Impressive backcheck from Logan Cooley on the last sequence.
He turned the puck over in the O-zone, turned on the jets to get back and created a turnover to win possession.
That’s phenomenal effort.
