SALT LAKE CITY- The long-awaited day has finally come as the newest addition to the Beehive State sports scene, formerly known as the Utah Hockey Club, has announced its permanent team name.
After a season as the Utah Hockey Club, the NHL franchise will now be known as the Utah Mammoth, an ode to the creature’s presence within our state thousands of years ago. Fans of the club have been patiently waiting for the announcement of a new name, so when news came down this morning that it was officially Mammoth, social media erupted with reactions.

When Utah posted the video on X this morning to announce the team name, some other teams from around the league, including the Senators, Jets, and Blackhawks, hopped in the comments to help usher in the new era.

The Nashville Predators, whose mascot is a saber-tooth tiger, a primitive beast that roamed the earth during the same era as the mammoth, are even looking forward to battling it out, just like their namesakes.

Following a year long process, several rounds of fan voting and more than 850,000 total votes, the NHLās newest franchise finally settled on Utah Mammoth as their new name and the clear favorite amongst fans.
