LOS ANGELES – With the No. 46 overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Utah Mammoth selected defenseman Max Psenicka.

Rounds 2-7 of the draft were held at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 28.

Currently, Utah’s defenseman position features names like Mikhail Sergachev, Sean Durzi, Ian Cole, John Marino, and Olli Maatta.

Yesterday, with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round, the Mammoth picked center Caleb Desnoyers.

Utah also holds the 78th, 110th, 142nd, and 174th picks in this year’s draft.

About Max Psenicka

Psenicka is a right-handed defenseman, originally from Czechia.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 185 pounds, he held down the back line for the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League last season. In 24 games played, he posted one goal and six assists in the regular season.

Psenicka is definitely a project pick, but with so many prospects in line, Utah has nothing but time. As an 18-year-old, he is already very physical and uses his size well. However, he isn’t a top-tier skater and doesn’t leave much of an impact on the attack.

With Utah recently trading defenseman Michael Kesselring to Buffalo for forward JJ Peterka, going with a defenseman early on day two makes sense.
