SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah Hockey Club went 2-2 last week, with three of their games coming against top-10 teams in the NHL standings as they beat the Minnesota Wild and split wins with the Winnipeg Jets.
The Hockey Club scored 12 goals during the four-game stretch, with four of them coming from Barrett Hayton, who also added two assists, earning the NHL’s Third Star of the Week.

The 24-year-old from Peterborough, Ontario is right on pace to have a career year. His highest point total came in 2022-23 when he scored 42 points in 82 games, and this year he already has 26 points through 49 games, putting him on pace to either tie or barely surpass his best season.
The six points from Utah’s second-line center last week certainly gave him a boost on the stat sheet, but his performances also affected the Hockey Club in the standings. Not only was Hayton scoring, but he was scoring in big moments, netting game-winning goals in both of Utah’s wins last week.
His first game-winning goal came against the Winnipeg Jets on a turnover that turned into a breakaway. Josh Doan poked the puck to Hayton who was streaking unmarked down the slot, making it a 3-0 game at the time.

His second game-winning goal came less than two minutes into Utah’s 4-0 shutout of the Minnesota Wild. Nick DeSimone unleashed a shot toward net from the blue line, Barrett Hayton tipped it on its way into the net, and the Hockey Club didn’t look back.

Barrett Hayton flexed his defensive muscles as well, stealing a puck from the Jets at the blue line and then hitting Logan Cooley with the outlet pass that he would put into the back of the net on a no-look shot just a few seconds later.

Later in that same game, Barrett Hayton teamed up with Josh Doan and Matias Maccelli in a perfectly executed 3-on-2 breakaway. Hayton led the break down the near side of the ice before slinging the puck across the face of goal to Doan who left the puck for Maccelli in the slot.

Against Minnesota, Barrett Hayton put the cherry on top of the shutout win, scoring Utah’s fourth goal less than two minutes into the third period thanks to some dirty work at the net front.
