OREM, Utah- The Utah Valley Wolverines just matched a program record for wins in a season this year with 25, winning a WAC regular season title along the way.
The head man behind the historical success was Todd Phillips, and he has just signed a two-year contract extension with Utah Valley to remain the head coach through the 2027-2028 season.
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue leading the Utah Valley men’s basketball program,” Phillips said about his extension in a press release. “We have something truly special here, and I appreciate the incredible support from Dr. Sumsion, VP Val Paterson, our biggest fan President Tuminez, and the Wolverine community. I’m excited about our future and committed to building on our recent successes, competing for championships, and continuing to develop student-athletes who excel both on the court and beyond. My family and I love being a part of UVU and look forward to more great moments ahead.”

Todd Phillips has been on the UVU coaching staff since 2019, starting as an assistant before climbing his way up the ranks and ultimately replacing Mark Madsen as the head coach.
In his first two seasons as the head coach of the Utah Valley Wolverines, Phillips owns a 41-25 record and holds the record for most wins by a head coach through his first two years.
Coach Phillips led the Wolverines on a dominant run through their WAC schedule this past season, their only loss in 16 games coming on the road to the Grand Canyon Lopes. This also meant that the Wolverines went undefeated at home for the first time in program history. For this, Todd was named the 2025 WAC Coach of the Year.
Todd Phillips had Utah Valley just 40 minutes away from their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, but they ended up falling once again to Grand Canyon in the WAC Tournament Championship Game.
Three key pieces to the Wolverines’ success, Tanner Toolson (All WAC Second-Team), Dominick Nelson (WAC Player of the Year), and Carter Welling (WAC Defensive Player of the Year), have all already entered the transfer portal, so now it will be Phillips’s task to rebuild the Utah Valley roster and defend their regular season title.
“Coach Phillips has built a championship culture both on and off the court, demonstrating exceptional leadership that resonates throughout our program,” said Utah Valley athletic director Jared Sumsion in a press release. “We are thrilled to extend Todd’s contract and solidify his leadership at UVU.” “He has established a tradition of success and winning, and we look forward to continued success and competing for league titles and NCAA and postseason tournament appearances under his guidance.”
