SALT LAKE CITY—Utah football is clsoing in on the finish line in spring ball and receiver Creed Whittemore is focused on finishing strong.
In a receiver room that has nearly been completely reconstructed, Whittemore has made a good impression through the first few weeks of camp.

Creed Whittemore sees the progress of Utah’s receivers, passing game
“Ever day is a new challenge,” Creed Whittemore said. “Coaches challenge us every practice to improve and work on something specific.”
That mindset has fueled progress in Utah’s wide receiver group and Whittemore has been in the thick of that progression.
“If you turn on the film, you can see that we’ve been progressing,” he said. “Going back even to OTA’s in the winter, we’ve gotten so much better, from our routes to execution of the offense.”
After a couple of weeks of practice, the mental grind can start to set in. Whittemore acknowledged that and knows it’s about consistency — showing up every day with purpose.

“Late in spring, it can get to where you need to come out here with a different mentality,” Whittemore said. “It can get monotonous, and you’ve got to push through barriers, you need to be strong to make progress.”
That mindset tracks perfectly with the culture head coach Kyle Whittingham has built: tough, accountable, and focused. Whittemore is buying into that mentality.
“I just want to continue to get better over the next two weeks,” he said. “As we get closer to the finish line, it’s important to have a good mindset each and every practice. That’s my focus — to bring a good mindset and continue to get better.”
Utah’s receivers developing with quarterbacks
Quarterback play is often the headline, but receivers know that chemistry with their QBs turns reps into results. Whittemore has liked the bruding connection with Utah’s quarterback room.
“Things are developing well with the quarterbacks,” Creed Whittemore shared. “Having Devon Dampier, who knows the offense so well, has been helpful because he’s comfortable within the system. We’ve always got to be better, but I think those guys are doing a great job executing and giving us opportunities to make plays.”

It’s not just Dampier either, Whittemore has seen good signs from other quarterbacks and noted the progress they’ve made.
“Dev, Isaac, Byrd, Brandon — all of them have a unique way of playing quarterback,” he said. “They can each scramble and run, so we’ve always got to be ready for the scramble drill. These guys are smart and have executed the offense better and better.”
Why did Whittemore commit to Utah?
Whittemore’s path to Utah was fueled by relationships and ambition. His former position coach, Chad Bumphis — a former Utah coach— played a key role in connecting him with the staff.
“My coach there, coach Bumphis, spent time here and he obviously knows the coaches here and put in a good word for me,” Whittemore explained. “Came out here on an official visit, met with coach Micah Simon, Jason Beck, all the coaches — and came away feeling good about the potential here to win a Big 12 championship, which is why I committed.”
