Utah State Rolls Over In Blowout Loss To Rams

FORT COLLINS, Colorado—The Aggies never found their mojo, trailing from the outset in a non-competitive 93-66 loss to Colorado State. For the first time this season, USU has suffered back-to-back losses.
The Rams (20-9, 14-4) hosted Utah State (24-6, 14-5) in Fort Collins, Colorado on Saturday, March 1.

Ian Martinez led three Aggies in double-figures with 17 points. Deyton Albury added 12, and Jordy Barnes came off the bench to score 11.
Nique Clifford was 10-of-14 shooting to finish with 26 points.
First Half
USU missed its first four shots, allowing Colorado State to grab a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes. Mason Falslev finally got the lid off the basket with a short jumper with 16:53 left in the half.

The Rams scored on five of their first six possessions, taking a 13-point lead into the first media timeout.
CSU’s defense was causing the Aggies fits. Three turnovers and missing eight of their first 11 looks had USU visibly frustrated. The Rams led 23-6 with 11:51 left.

Utah State fell behind 33-10, their largest deficit of the season. Falslev ended a more than four-minute drought with his second bucket of the half.
The Rams held a 39-15 lead with 3:51 left. USU started 5-of-21 (23.8 percent) from the field and 1-of-6 (16.7 percent) from three. Colorado State scored eight points off five early Aggie turnovers.
Utah State, the leading assist team in the Mountain West, did not have an assist in the first half. Colorado State played a nearly perfect first half to lead 48-22 at the break.

Ian Martinez led the Aggies with ten points. Jaylen Crocker-Johnson led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Bowen Born added 11 points for the Rams.
Second Half
The Aggies’ 7-0 run showed some life after the break. However, the momentum didn’t last, as CSU’s defense put the clamps back on.
Colorado State doubled up the Aggies, leading 62-31 with 15 minutes left.

Falslev was forced to the bench later in the half after picking up his fourth personal foul on a flagrant elbow.
Deyton Albury scored five quick points for the Aggies, cutting the deficit to 29.

Utah State closes regular season play at home against the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, March 8. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. MT. USU crushed the Falcons in late January, pulling away for the 87-58 win.
