SALT LAKE CITY – The beneficiary of a teammate’s suspension, Tanner Banks is proving his value in relief for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Following an 80-game PED suspension of lefty closer José Alvarado, Banks continues to earn reps in high-leverage situations for the National League’s hottest team.
The former Riverton Silverwolf punched out a batter to earn his first save in a 4-3 win over the Athletics.

Jordan Romano began the inning for Philadelphia, but nearly coughed up a four-run lead. Romano gave up a single and walked a batter before recording the first out.
With one down, Nick Kurtz lifted a three-run homer to center that turned a comfortable win into a scary situation.
One batter later, Banks replaced Romano, getting Lawrence Butler swinging to end the game.

The San Diego native hit .288 with 76 RBI, 16 stolen bases, and 21 doubles as a Cougar.
