Mary Culbertson is a writer and producer at KSL TV in Salt Lake City. She works primarily in the newsroom, crafting stories for KSLTV.com, helping reporters amplify their work on social media. Born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley, Mary loves celebrating the people of Utah by highlighting their unique stories.
In addition to her responsibilities of writing and producing at KSL TV, Mary took on the project management role of digital specialist in 2025. As a digital specialist, Mary works to improve the reach of the KSL TV brand on social media through user-focused content strategies that aim to extend the relevance and impact of local news on a myriad of different platforms. She enjoys working with digital teams to pioneer the effort of ushering rich network television content into the era of social media.
Before joining KSL, Mary contributed to SLUG Magazine as a music writer with a focus on local artists and music reviews. She later produced and hosted the publication’s podcast, SLUG Soundwaves, in 2023—interviewing musicians and exploring the origin stories of music in the Beehive State.
Prior, Mary studied music education at the University of Utah, where she performed for three years as a vocalist alongside the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall. She brings her creative energy and local insight to every story she tells, with a passion for arts coverage and digital storytelling.
