SALT LAKE CITY – According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, Montreal Canadiens forward Emil Heineman was hit by a car in Salt Lake City on Monday afternoon.

At 2:55 p.m. on Monday, the Salt Lake City dispatch received a report about pedestrian-involved car incident near 200 East and 500 South in Salt Lake City.
While officers initially responded, they were unable to locate the person who made the report, or the pedestrian who was involved in the crash.
“Later in the evening, officers received information from a nearby business, which reported having information likely associated with the crash. Officers learned the pedestrian was a Montreal Canadiens hockey team player,” the police report said.
“The team identified the pedestrian as Emil Heineman and did not show any signs of serious injuries and was being attended to by team doctors,” the report continued.

Following the incident, Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis told reporters that Heineman was struck while attempting to cross the street.
“I don’t really know the story — I wasn’t there. I just know that he got hurt crossing the street yesterday. I don’t think it was at a high speed, but enough to cause some damage,” St. Louis told Brogan Houston of the Deseret News.
While Heineman was not seriously injured, the team announced that he will be out three to four weeks with an upper-body injury.

SLCPD officers have identified all parties involved and the Utah Highway Patrol will investigate the crash further.
